Asia Cup 2027 Schedule Revealed: Host Country And ODI Format Confirmed

The Asian Cricket Council has confirmed its plans for the Men’s Asia Cup 2027, with Bangladesh hosting the six-team 50-over tournament. The event will also give teams a final chance to prepare before the ODI World Cup later that year.

The Asia Cup 2027 is scheduled to begin on June 18, 2027. The proposed window from June 18 to July 4 will see the tournament hosted by South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe before the World Cup.

Asia Cup Returns to ODI Format

After being held in the T20 format in 2025, the Asia Cup will return to the 50-over format in 2027. The reason is simple. With the ODI World Cup approaching, this tournament gives teams the perfect opportunity to settle on their best combinations and allows players to get back into the rhythm of ODI cricket.

It paves the way for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have retired from T20Is, to once again play in a major Asian tournament for India. India will arrive as defending champions after winning the ODI Asia Cup in 2023 and the T20 title in 2025.

Why Bangladesh will Host the Asia Cup 2027?

There were genuine doubts about whether Bangladesh would host the tournament or not. Relations between Bangladesh and India became increasingly strained after Kolkata Knight Riders released Mustafizur Rahman during IPL 2026. The situation became more complicated after Bangladesh withdrew from the T20 World Cup, which led to Scotland taking its place.

India’s scheduled white-ball tour of Bangladesh in 2026 was also postponed, although recent reports suggest that the series could now take place in September. This development raised questions about whether the ACC would shift the tournament to another country.

The existing agreement between the BCCI and the Pakistan Cricket Board means that India and Pakistan do not tour each other’s countries, making a neutral venue necessary. Bangladesh meets that requirement, and under the new BCB administration led by Tamim Iqbal, efforts are being made to improve relations with Indian cricket’s governing body. It has played a key role in making Bangladesh the preferred host.

The second reason is from an administrative point of view. Mohsin Naqvi’s tenure as ACC President ends in April 2027 under a rotation system, after which the BCB is expected to appoint the next president. Against this backdrop, it is unlikely that Bangladesh will lose the hosting rights at this stage.

Teams for Asia Cup 2027

Six teams will participate in the Asia Cup 2027. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and one associate nation are expected to participate, with 13 matches to be played during the tournament. However, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is yet to announce the full schedule for the Asia Cup 2027.

With the host nation confirmed and the tournament returning to the ODI format, the Asia Cup 2027 promises to be one of the biggest events before the World Cup. The schedule is still awaited, but now the focus is on team combinations, venue preparations and the second chapter of Asian cricket’s biggest rivalry.
