The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday announced the first part of the schedule for the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In this phase, 20 matches will be played in 10 cities – Bengaluru, Mumbai, Guwahati, New Chandigarh, Lucknow, Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad.
Out of these 20 matches, four matches are for Chennai Super Kings. The team will play two of them at home, and all four matches will be played in the evening. The five-time champion team, which won the trophy in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023, will begin its campaign with a match against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on March 30.
Chennai went into the IPL auction last December with the second highest purse of Rs 43.40 crore. The franchise spent more than half of its budget on uncapped players, marking a clear shift from CSK’s long-standing strategy of focusing on experienced names. They signed Prashant Vir and Karthik Sharma for Rs 14.2 crore, and also added useful players like Akil Hussain and Matt Henry to strengthen the team.
The biggest headline for Chennai ahead of the new season was the signing of Sanju Samson. The franchise completed a trade deal with Rajasthan Royals that included Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran. The move raised some doubts among fans about MS Dhoni’s role in the playing XI and whether he would be fully available for the entire season. However, CSK’s CEO has already confirmed that Dhoni will be with the team for the entire season.
