Australia came to Bangladesh and did what they do best – win when it mattered. After losing the first two ODIs, the visitors made a strong comeback by winning the third ODI and the first T20I. Now, in the second T20I on June 19, Bangladesh will have to fight back or Australia will lose the series. The pressure is on the home team. Can Bangladesh’s spinners turn the tables on their own turf, or can Australia seal the deal and take an unassailable 2-0 lead? Here’s everything you need to know on Cricbites.

Before we look ahead, let’s quickly understand what happened in the first game. Australia outplayed Bangladesh from start to finish at the same venue on June 17.
| Stat | Bangladesh (BAN) | Australia (AUS) |
|---|---|---|
| Score | 131 all out (19 overs) | 133/6 (18.2 overs) |
| Result | Australia won by 4 wickets (10 balls remaining) | |
| Top Batter | Mahedi Hasan 29* (22) | Cooper Connolly 47 (27) |
| Top Bowler | A. G. Saqlain โ 2 wickets | Adam Zampa 3/18 ยท Joel Davies 3/17 |
| Player of the Match | Adam Zampa (AUS) โ 3 wickets for 18 runs | |
Key takeaway: Bangladesh’s entire batting order collapsed against Australia’s spin. Only Mehidy Hasan could fight back. Australia also gave Joel Davis and Nikhil Chaudhary their T20I debuts – both impressed immediately.

Bangladesh have home advantage and have an excellent record when conditions are favourable for their spin attack – they beat Australia 4-1 at home in 2021. But for now, Australia’s confidence is high, and their batting lineup is performing brilliantly.

Liton Das, who missed the first T20I due to a foot injury, is likely to return. Bangladesh may also consider bringing in Shoriful Islam for extra pace. Australia are also expected to stick with the same team, as they won easily.

The surface keeps things honest. This is not a flat highway where batsmen can go crazy – the ball holds the pitch and slows down, especially when the spinners bowl in the middle overs. In the first T20I, Bangladesh scored a good 52 runs in the powerplay but lost wickets in clusters and scored only 131 runs. Expect similar tricky conditions in the second game. The team that wins the toss and bowls first has a clear lead based on recent history here.
Connolly was the star in the first T20I, scoring 47 off 27 balls. He has been in fine form in his last three innings, scoring 149, 35 and 47. Bangladesh spinners Rishad Hossain and Abdul Ghaffar Saqlain will have to find a way to stop him early, otherwise it could be a long day for the home team.
Adam Zampa took 3/3 for 18 in the first T20I and completely dismantled the Bangladesh middle order. He also took 150 T20I wickets in that game – a major milestone. Bangladesh batsmen need a clear plan against his leg-spin, otherwise a similar collapse could happen again.
Hriday is currently Bangladesh’s most consistent batsman – he has scored 101*, 31, 40* and 83 in his last four T20I innings. He was dismissed for just 8 runs in the first T20I, and Bangladesh really missed the mark. If he fires today, Bangladesh have a chance. But Australia’s pace bowlers will target him early.
Bangladesh need their pace bowlers to step up from the first over. Australia’s openers – Marsh and Inglis – prefer to attack early. If Bangladesh can take two or three wickets in the Powerplay, they can keep Australia under pressure throughout the match.
| Player | Team | Recent Form | Why They Matter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cooper Connolly | ๐ฆ๐บ AUS | 149, 35, 47 (last 3 knocks) | In-form opener; sets the tone for Australia’s chase |
| Adam Zampa | ๐ฆ๐บ AUS | 3/18 in 1st T20I; 150+ T20I wkts | Match-winner on slow pitches; Bangladesh’s biggest threat |
| Towhid Hridoy | ๐ง๐ฉ BAN | 101*, 31, 40*, 83 in last 4 innings | Bangladesh’s anchor; needs a big knock today |
| Mitchell Marsh | ๐ฆ๐บ AUS | 90 & 96 in last 2 innings | Captain leading from the front; powerful striker |
| Aaron Hardie | ๐ฆ๐บ AUS | 10 wkts + 125 runs in last 5 games | All-round threat; can hurt Bangladesh both ways |
| Abdul Gaffar Saqlain | ๐ง๐ฉ BAN | 5/37, 1/38, 3/67, 2/32 in last 4 outings | Bangladesh’s best wicket-taker; key to a comeback |

| ๐ Key Batter (BAN) | Towhid Hridoy – Bangladesh’s best hope; must convert this time. |
| ๐ณ Key Bowler (AUS) | Adam Zampa – On this surface, his leg-spin is nearly impossible to read. |
| ๐ณ Key Bowler (BAN) | Abdul Gaffar Saqlain – Only Bangladesh bowler who troubled Australia last game. |
| ๐ Predicted Score Range | 140โ165 (1st innings); Close chase expected if BAN bat second. |
| ๐ฆ๏ธ Weather Impact | Partly cloudy; some chance of rain – DLS could come into play. |
๐ CricBite’s final verdict: Australia are our pick to win the second T20I and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. Their spin attack is suited to the Chattogram conditions, their batsmen are in fine form, and the team’s confidence is currently sky-high. Bangladesh will need something special – Hridayoy with the bat and Saqlain with the ball – to turn the tables.
