Bangladesh Women and Netherlands Women meet in the fifth Group 1 fixture of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on June 14.

Bangladesh enter the contest as favourites. They have more experience at this level, a bowling attack capable of controlling games in English conditions, and a strong recent record against the Netherlands. But the Dutch side has shown steady progress over the last two years and will believe they can compete.

Match Overview

  • Fixture: Bangladesh Women vs Netherlands Women
  • Tournament: ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026
  • Match: 5th Match (Group 1)
  • Date & Time: 14 June 2026, 3:00 PM IST (10:30 AM BST)
  • Venue: Edgbaston stadium, Birmingham, United kingdom

Bangladesh

Bangladesh is coming into this tournament with a clear game plan built around their technique and trademark spin attack. At the heart of it all is Captain Nigar Sultana, who is arguably the most vital player in the squad right now. Whether she’s providing that much-needed stability with the bat or leading from the front behind the stumps, her experience is going to be helpful for them.

Around her are experienced players such as Nahida Akter, Fahima Khatun, Ritu Moni and Sharmin Akhter. The bowling attack could be Bangladesh’s biggest strength in this tournament. It helps that Nahida Akter has consistently been among their leading wicket-takers.

On top of that, you’ve got Rabeya Khan and Fahima Khatun, both of whom provide extra spin options that are great at slowing down the scoring rates during those middle overs.

Bangladesh also have positive recent memories against the Netherlands. The two sides met during the Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier earlier this year, where Bangladesh secured a comfortable seven-wicket victory after restricting the Dutch batting lineup. That result should give them confidence heading into this contest.

What Bangladesh need is batting consistency. If the top order provides a solid platform, they have enough bowling quality to defend competitive totals.

Netherlands

The Netherlands have already achieved something significant by qualifying for the tournament, but they will not want their World Cup journey to stop there.

Much of their batting revolves around Sterre Kalis and Babette de Leede, two players with considerable experience in associate and franchise cricket. Kalis has been one of the Netherlands’ most productive batters over the last year, while de Leede’s ability to anchor innings remains crucial.

The Dutch squad also includes key contributors such as Iris Zwilling, Robine Rijke and Heather Siegers. Zwilling’s wicket-taking ability has been particularly valuable, and she enters the tournament as one of the Netherlands’ most effective bowlers.

Recent warm-up performances have been mixed. The Netherlands were beaten by Scotland in one preparation match before pushing Sri Lanka competitively in another. Those results highlighted both the promise within the squad and the challenge of maintaining consistency against stronger opposition.

The Dutch side’s biggest challenge may be handling Bangladesh’s spin attack through the middle overs.

Pitch Report: Edgbaston Stadium

Edgbaston has traditionally offered assistance to seam bowlers during the early stages of a T20 innings, especially when conditions are overcast. As the match progresses, batting generally becomes easier and stroke-making becomes more comfortable.

The surface is expected to provide a fair contest between bat and ball. Teams that preserve wickets during the powerplay should be well placed to accelerate later in the innings.

Toss Prediction

The morning conditions at Edgbaston could encourage captains to bowl first. Any early movement for seamers would make chasing an attractive option, particularly if batting conditions improve as the day progresses.

Match Prediction

The Netherlands have several players capable of making an impact, and they have improved considerably over recent seasons. If Sterre Kalis or Babette de Leede can build a substantial innings, they could put Bangladesh under pressure.

However, Bangladesh appear stronger in most departments. Their bowlers definitely have a great edge in experience, especially since they’re used to facing top-tier teams on a regular basis. Plus, it’s hard to ignore how well they’ve done against the Netherlands in their recent head-to-heads.

Still expect the Dutch to put up a real fight, though, particularly in the first half of the match. But Bangladesh’s spin resources and greater international experience should gradually tilt the contest in their favour.

The Netherlands have earned their place at the tournament and possess enough quality to make this competitive. However, Bangladesh’s stronger bowling attack, experience at ICC events and impressive recent record against the Dutch side should prove decisive. Overall, Bangladesh will be the winner of this match.
