The BCCI has dismissed reports claiming that the opening ODI between India and Sri Lanka, scheduled for December 13, 2026, could be moved from Delhi to Ahmedabad. Board secretary Devajit Saikia clarified that no such decision has been taken, putting an end to speculation surrounding the venue.
The reports had suggested that the match might be shifted to Ahmedabad because of ongoing construction work at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. However, Saikia described the claims as inaccurate and urged media organisations to rely on official BCCI communications for updates on the schedule.
“Reports suggesting that the India–Sri Lanka ODI match scheduled in Delhi may be shifted to Ahmedabad are not accurate. There has been no such decision by the BCCI,” Saikia said.
He also reiterated that the BCCI follows a standard policy when allocating venues for bilateral matches.
Ahmedabad is already set to host the third and final ODI of the series on December 19, 2026, at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
According to the announced itinerary, the ODI series will begin in Delhi on December 13 before moving to Bengaluru for the second match. Ahmedabad will then host the series finale.
For now, Delhi remains the scheduled venue for the opening match, with no official announcement indicating a change.
Sri Lanka are scheduled to tour India from December 13 to 27, 2026, for a six-match white-ball series featuring three ODIs and three T20Is.
The ODI leg will be followed by a three-match T20I series, with the two teams set to meet at venues across India.
ODI series
1st ODI: December 13 – Delhi
2nd ODI: Bengaluru
3rd ODI: December 19 – Ahmedabad
T20I series

The tour will provide both teams with an opportunity to test their combinations and build momentum across the two formats.
With speculation emerging over the Delhi venue, the BCCI has made its position clear: the opening ODI remains scheduled for December 13 in Delhi, and no decision has been made to move the match to Ahmedabad.
Any changes to the itinerary will need to be confirmed through official communication from the Board. Until then, the existing schedule stands, with Delhi set to host the series opener and Ahmedabad the final ODI.
