Career

He has played seven T20Is and taken fifty-three wickets with five wickets in twenty-four. He has taken five wickets in all three formats. He is an example of a real strike bowler in all formats. Injuries have interrupted his career at various times as they do for fast bowlers who bowl at that pace. He has bounced back from those injuries and has been an important pace option for Sri Lanka. His commitment to coming back from injury and continuing to bowl fast shows the kind of cricketer he is.

IPL Career and Teams

Chameera has played for several franchises in the IPL. He has played for Lucknow Super Giants, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders in various seasons of the IPL. Franchises want fast bowlers who can generate pace and bounce in the powerplay and at the death. Chameera provides both. He has also played in the Lanka Premier League for Kandy Falcons and Colombo Stars. He has played for Dubai Capitals in the ILT20. Franchise cricket in India, Sri Lanka and the Middle East has used his express pace in several competitions and seasons. Teams that need wickets early in T20 matches look for bowlers like Chameera.

Playing Style and Strengths

Chameera is a right-arm fast bowler who produces fast pace and sharp bounce. He is aggressive with the ball. He bowls with intent and hostility. In limited overs cricket, he is used as a strike bowler. He bowls in the powerplay when the ball is new and at the death when the batsmen are attacking with pace.

He is a right-arm lower-order batsman who makes useful contributions at times but his bat is not his primary tool. He is a strong and athletic fielder who reacts quickly in the outfield. His bowling defines him completely. A fast bowler who takes five wickets in sixteen in ODIs and five wickets in twenty-four in T20s is not a defensive option. He is an offensive weapon.

Records and Achievements

Chameera is considered one of the fastest Sri Lankan bowlers of the modern era. He regularly bowls at speeds in excess of one hundred and forty-five kilometres per hour.
