Hardik Pandya’s future ahead of the IPL 2027 season has become one of the biggest talking points in the cricketing world. Reports have linked the Mumbai Indians all-rounder with several franchises. While, former Kolkata Knight Riders cricketer Manvinder Bisla believes there is one team that stands above the rest as the ideal destination for the India star.
According to Bisla, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) would be the perfect fit for Pandya. Particularly because of the leadership opportunity and freedom the franchise could provide him.
Speaking on the YouTube podcast TheBallyBaazi, Bisla strongly backed KKR as the best-suited team for Pandya ahead of IPL 2027. The former KKR wicketkeeper-batter believes the franchise’s need for a leader makes the potential move particularly attractive for Pandya. He also feels the all-rounder could flourish with greater freedom and responsibility in Kolkata.
Bisla was unequivocal in his assessment, saying KKR would suit Pandya extremely well and could give him both the freedom and leadership role he needs at this stage of his career. The argument comes at a time when Pandya’s future with Mumbai Indians is under significant speculation. However, it is important to note that no trade involving Pandya has been confirmed. Mumbai Indians had previously stated that they were reviewing their squad and were not engaged in trade discussions at that stage.
One of the biggest reasons behind Bisla’s recommendation is KKR’s leadership situation. Pandya has already demonstrated that he can successfully lead an IPL side. As Gujarat Titans captain, he led the franchise to the IPL title in 2022 and took them to another final in 2023. Those results underline his credentials as a leader and explain why Bisla believes Pandya could benefit from being given a clear leadership role again.
KKR, meanwhile, could provide a different environment from Mumbai Indians. The franchise has been searching for stability and leadership, making an experienced all-rounder with captaincy credentials an attractive option. For Pandya, such a move could also offer an opportunity. Especially to take greater ownership of a team rather than being one of several senior leaders within an established setup.
Pandya’s second stint with Mumbai Indians has not produced the consistency the franchise would have hoped for. After returning to Mumbai ahead of IPL 2024, Pandya replaced Rohit Sharma as captain. The decision attracted considerable attention, and the team struggled to find sustained success during his captaincy. Mumbai finished 10th in 2024, improved to third in 2025, but slipped to ninth in 2026. Their 2026 campaign ended without a playoff appearance.
Bisla suggested that having several established leaders within the Mumbai setup may also have made Pandya’s role more complicated. In his view, a franchise where Pandya can clearly establish himself as the main leader could bring out the best in him.
Although KKR appears to be an attractive destination in Bisla’s view, making the move happen would be far from straightforward. Mumbai Indians would likely expect substantial value in return for a player of Pandya’s calibre. Bisla himself acknowledged that MI could demand one or even two players capable of immediately contributing to their playing XI.
That makes negotiations potentially difficult, particularly because Pandya remains one of the IPL’s most valuable Indian all-rounders. Bisla described a potential Pandya move to KKR as a massive trade, highlighting just how significant such a deal would be.
From KKR’s perspective, Pandya could solve several problems with one signing. As a pace-bowling all-rounder, he provides balance to the playing XI. He also offers power in the middle and lower order. More importantly, his IPL leadership experience could give KKR an established figure around whom the team could build.
However, all of this remains hypothetical for now. Reports and expert opinions have made KKR one of the teams linked with Pandya, but there is no confirmed trade agreement between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders.
Manvinder Bisla’s recommendation adds another major voice to the growing discussion surrounding Hardik Pandya’s IPL 2027 future. For the former KKR cricketer, Kolkata offers the combination Pandya could need most: leadership, freedom and responsibility. Pandya’s previous success with Gujarat Titans also suggests that giving him a clear leadership role could potentially unlock his best qualities.
Whether KKR can actually complete such a blockbuster move remains uncertain. But if Hardik Pandya does become available ahead of IPL 2027, Bisla has made his preference clear — KKR could be the ideal destination for the star all-rounder.
