Gujarat Titans had a great performance in IPL 2025 and finished third in the league stage. However, their journey ended in the playoffs after a loss to Mumbai Indians, which saw them miss out on their third IPL final. GT had previously won the IPL trophy in their debut season in 2022. In 2023, they reached the final but lost to Chennai Super Kings. During the league stage of last season, the team won nine matches while losing five.
Under the captaincy of Shubman Gill, Gujarat Titans will try to dominate again this season. They will start their IPL 2026 campaign against Punjab Kings in Nava Chandigarh on March 31. After that, they will play their first home match of the season against Rajasthan Royals in Ahmedabad on April 4.
GT also decided to retain 20 players before the auction and entered the mini-auction with a remaining purse of ₹12.90 crore. The franchise spent a huge amount on West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder and signed him for ₹7 crore. They also bought Tom Banton for ₹2 crore. Apart from this, the team picked Ashok Sharma for ₹90 lakh, Luke Wood for ₹75 lakh and Prithviraj Yara for ₹30 lakh.
The franchise allowed Sherfane Rutherford to join Mumbai Indians during the retention deadline. Earlier, the team had already released Gerald Coetzee and Dasun Shanaka. Along with them, Karim Jannat, Mahipal Lomror and Kulwant Khejrolia also did not continue in the team.
For the upcoming season, the BCCI announced the schedule for the first phase of the tournament. Depending on the election schedule in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Assam, the board will announce the remaining matches later.
