Australia’s preparations for the upcoming white-ball tour of Bangladesh have been dealt a major blow, with three key players set to miss the tour for various reasons. Captain Mitch Marsh, explosive opener Travis Head and leg-spinner Tanvir Sangha will all be unavailable for parts of the tour.
Marsh has been ruled out of the three-match ODI series as he recovers from an ankle injury, while Sangha has been sidelined with a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, Head has been granted personal leave for the entire tour as Australia carefully manage the workload of one of their most valuable all-format cricketers ahead of a busy international schedule.
As a result, changes have been made to the squad, with Todd Murphy, Ollie Peake and Matt Short being brought in for the ODI leg of the series, which begins on Tuesday.
In Marsh’s absence, wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis will again lead Australia in the 50-over match, having previously led the team during the recent white-ball series against Pakistan.

Australia selector Tony Dodemed confirmed that Sangha’s injury had brought an early end to his involvement in the tour.
“Unfortunately, Tanvir Sangha sustained a hamstring injury during the second ODI against Pakistan and will not be taking part in the tour,” Dodemed said.
Dodemed also said that Marsh is yet to fully recover from his ankle problem, although the all-rounder is still expected to join the squad before the start of the T20I series.
“We had hoped that Mitchell Marsh would be available for the Bangladesh ODI series, but he has not yet returned to full fitness from his ankle injury. Mitch will join the team in Dhaka and begin preparations for the T20I series,” he said.
The selector further said that Head was rested ahead of Australia’s challenging Test cricket run, despite being named in both the original squads.
“Travis was initially selected for the ODI and T20I legs of this Bangladesh tour, but has since been granted personal leave for both. We look forward to seeing him again for the top Test series against Bangladesh,” he said.
The changes to the squad have created opportunities for a number of players. Off-spinner Todd Murphy has received his first ODI call-up, while Peake and Short have maintained their place after making a positive impression during the Pakistan tour.
“We are excited to welcome Todd Murphy to the ODI squad for the first time, while it made sense for Ollie Peake and Matt Short to remain with the group after the Pakistan tour,” said Dodemaid.
Despite losing several established names, Australia will aim to maintain their momentum in the Bangladesh series before turning their attention to a challenging Test schedule including Bangladesh, South Africa and New Zealand.
