The championship will begin on 17 June 2025 in Galle, where Sri Lanka will host Bangladesh. Subcontinental conditions, spin-friendly pitches and smart strategy will make for an exciting start to this two-year tour.
Main series: England vs India (June–August 2025)
India will begin their campaign with a thrilling five-Test tour of England, playing at prestigious venues such as Headingley, Edgbaston, Lord’s, Old Trafford and The Oval.
Shubman Gill will take over as Test captain and Rishabh Pant will be the vice-captain – a new era will begin after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. If India win this series, they can strongly enhance their chances in the WTC.
Home Assignments: West Indies and South Africa (October-December 2025)
India will then play two important home series:
The league stage concludes with a big five-Test home series against Australia. This famous encounter from January to February 2027 could decide who reaches the WTC final. Fans can expect intense and exciting matches on India’s spin-friendly pitches.
The final will be held at Lord’s in London in June 2027. The exact date and venue have not yet been confirmed.

The WTC is a global tournament for Test cricket in which nine teams compete in a two-year cycle. Its aim is to determine the world’s best Test playing nation.
Teams earn 12 points for a win, 6 for a tie and 4 for a draw. Points are deducted for a slow over-rate. The rankings are based on the Points Percentage (PCT) system.
