Be happy, because world-renowned fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is going to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Be happy, because world-renowned fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is going to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Know why he is doing this and what is the new rule of BCCI. Here are the complete details:
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has banned Indian players from playing for the national team. Therefore, top players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will play for Delhi and Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Wednesday (December 24). Kohli will play with the Rishabh Pant-led Delhi cricket team against the Nitish Kumar Reddy-led Andhra Pradesh cricket team, and this is at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Along with this activity, the world’s number one batsman in ODIs, Rohit will play for the Shardul Thakur-led Mumbai cricket team against the Sikkim cricket team at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Apart from these two former Indian captains, players like Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, KL Rahul, Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson and Arshdeep Singh are also playing at least two matches in the top domestic one-day tournament.
As per Gujarat Cricket Association secretary Anil Patel, 32-year-old Jasprit Bumrah is not playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for the state team because of rest.
“Bumrah does not take part in VHT as he is resting,” Patel said to The Times of India on Tuesday.
Another reason for Jasprit Bumrah being allowed to break the rules is his workload management. He has suffered back injuries twice in three years that have kept him out for several months. This has kept him out of the 2022 T20 World Cup, the 2023 World Test Championship final and the 2025 Champions Trophy. Bumrah has been allowed to miss domestic matches so that he can stay fit and ready for the big events. He is likely to return soon for the five-match T20I series between India and New Zealand. However, he is not expected to take part in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand in January 2026. The T20I matches will be held on January 21, 23, 25, 28 and 31 in Nagpur, Raipur, Guwahati, Visakhapatnam and Thiruvananthapuram. After this, Bumrah will take the field for the defending champions in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup during February-March, performing in front of home fans.
Bumrah is likely to be the key bowler for India in this tournament, especially in the Powerplay and death overs where his precision yorkers and variations can completely turn the match in India’s favour.
He has proven that he can win matches when the ball matters in ICC events. Bumrah was the Player of the Tournament in the 2024 T20 World Cup with his excellent and consistent bowling.
Experts and former players insist that managing his workload ahead of the World Cup will be a key issue. Indeed, fast bowling puts a lot of physical strain on his body, so the Indian support team may deal with it by changing his schedule or limiting his overs to freshen him up for certain matches.
At the T20 level, India will expect Bumrah to keep up the runs and take key wickets, especially in the latter stages of the innings – his main strength in short-range cricket. Teams often plan around him; he needs to perform even under pressure.
He acts like a bowling captain even though he is not the bowling captain, helping Arshdeep Singh and other young bowlers strategize on the field as well as in pressure situations. His guidance definitely strengthens India’s entire bowling unit.
