Texas Super Kings (TSK) have been dealt a big blow in the ongoing Major League Cricket (MLC) 2026 season, with South African fast bowler Nandre Burger ruled out of the tournament after suffering another stress reaction in his back.
Burger will miss the tournament after a medical scan confirmed a recurrence of an old injury and will begin a long period of rest and rehabilitation.
The left-arm fast bowler played in the early stages of the competition, playing two matches and completing his full spell against Seattle Orcas. He also bowled two overs against San Francisco Unicorns, after which New Zealand pacer Adam Milne came in as his replacement for TSK’s third game.
The Faf du Plessis-led Texas Super Kings (TSK) are currently fifth on the table with just one win from their first three matches. His unexpected exclusion from the upcoming matches is a big blow for the Texas Super Kings team as he has been the team’s main pacer. He was useful with the ball in the first two matches, where he took just one wicket but kept things strong and did not concede many runs.
The latest injury is another setback in Burger’s career, which has often been interrupted by fitness issues. In 2024, he missed the South Africa series against Ireland, which meant he missed out on a potential ODI debut. Later that year, a back strain ruled him out of the Test series against Bangladesh and also ruled him out of the SA20 tournament.
Burger had struggled with similar back problems before his international debut. In 2021, he suffered a lower back injury that ended his domestic season early and kept him sidelined for almost a year before returning to play for Western Province.
His last injury before the MLC came in December last year when a hamstring problem affected his involvement in South Africa’s ODI series against India. The injury forced him to sit out the third ODI after playing the second match.

Soon after confirming Burger’s departure, the management announced his replacement on social media. The South African pacer has been replaced by Diane Forrester. He is a batting all-rounder who bats left-handed and bowls right-arm pace.
Texas Super Kings now become the third Super Kings franchise that Forrester has been a part of, having previously been with Joburg Super Kings in SA20 and Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.
It will be interesting to see how the management utilises the youngster, who is considered to have immense potential with both bat and ball. He is also expected to make an impact for the team during the remainder of the MLC 2026.
