Ellyse Perry’s unbeaten 62 off 39 balls helped Birmingham Phoenix beat MI London by 5 wickets in their final Hundred match at Edgbaston. Her match-winning knock saw Phoenix chase down 121 with 6 balls to spare and sign off their season with a win.
Birmingham Phoenix won the toss and opted to bowl first, but later found themselves struggling at 48 for 4 during the chase after MI London’s left-arm spinner Kirstie Gordon took 2 wickets for 20 runs in the Powerplay.
Gordon’s early breakthroughs, along with the cheap dismissals of England duo Alice Capsey and Emma Lamb, removed openers Jemima Spence and Davina Perrin to put the hosts in trouble. However, Perry received good support from Pakistan captain Fatima Sana, who scored 36 off 32 balls.
The pair put together 66 for the 5th wicket before Sana was caught off Nicola Carey with 7 runs still required, leaving Perry to complete the chase. Finally, Phoenix chased down MI London’s 120 for 6 with 6 balls to spare.
MI London posted 120 for 6 after being asked to bat, collapsing to 47 for 4 during the early stages. Lauren Filer trapped Kira Chathli lbw for 1, before Hayley Matthews made 21 before Davina Perrin took a fine diving catch off Sana to dismiss her.
Teenage debutant Phoebe Brett then claimed the massive scalp of Melie Kerr for a golden duck, while Eva Gray clean-bowled Alice Monaghan to trigger the slump. Hollie Armitage and Chinelle Henry then added 56 for the next wicket to lead the recovery, with Henry scoring 42 off 33 before Alana King broke the dangerous partnership. Gray and King kept the scoring under control towards the end, with Gray finishing with overall match figures of 2 for 29 after removing Armitage on the final ball.
With MI London restricted to 120 for 6, Birmingham Phoenix completed the chase to snap their three-match losing streak and finish 7th in the final standings. For MI London, it was their 6th defeat of the season and confirmed their place at the bottom of the table.
