Over the course of nearly two decades of competition, the Indian Premier League has featured some of the most consistent batsmen in the history of T20 cricket. Scoring a half-century on a regular basis is a key indicator of a player’s reliability and ability to anchor an innings in a format that can break down batting lineups in four overs. A half-century in T20 cricket means that a batsman has been consistent for a long time and is scoring fast enough to be useful.

Over the years, many players have built their reputation by repeatedly hitting half-centuries that have won matches and defined careers. This list highlights the top players who have scored the most half-centuries in IPL history from 2008 to 2025. These are batsmen who have performed and delivered in the world’s longest and toughest T20 competition not once or twice but dozens of times.

Faf du Plessis CSK, DC, RCB, RPS 2012–2025 154 39

Gautam Gambhir DC, KKR 2008–2018 154 36

1. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli is at the top of the IPL’s history with 63 half-centuries. In 267 matches between 2008 and 2025, he has scored 71 or more half-centuries, the most ever in the competition. He has played all these matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore. His consistency across almost the entire IPL era is something that statistical records can describe but cannot fully explain. He is the highest run-scorer, most half-century and most century scorer in IPL history. He came in as a young batsman in 2008 and proved over the next seventeen years that consistency is not luck. It is a discipline that is exercised every time you step to the crease.

2. David Warner

David Warner scored 62 half-centuries in 184 matches between 2009 and 2024, making him the second-highest half-century scorer in IPL history. He represented Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad as a top-order batsman who was dangerous from the first ball of his innings. His total of 66 half-centuries included 4 centuries. Warner won the Orange Cap three times and scored over 6,500 IPL runs at an average of over 40. Sixty-two half-centuries in fifteen seasons meant he was a threat for big scores in almost every match. He was an opener who made the Powerplay feel like his personal property.

3. Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan scored 51 half-centuries in 222 matches between 2008 and 2024. He played for Delhi Capitals, Deccan Chargers, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad during his long career. His total of 53-plus half-centuries reflects a batsman who was present and contributed throughout most of the IPL. Dhawan was an aggressive left-handed opener who scored runs quickly and with a smile on his face, making batting in the IPL enjoyable. 222 matches and 51 half-centuries across multiple franchises is a record for a player who gave his all to every team he represented.

4. Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma has scored 47 half-centuries in 272 matches between 2008 and 2025. He has played more IPL matches than almost any other player and his total of 49 half-centuries shows a career built on longevity and reliability. He started with Deccan Chargers before joining Mumbai Indians in 2011 and led the team to five IPL titles as captain. Rohit’s batting was calm where others were restless and steady where others were erratic. He has scored over 7,000 IPL runs and his 47 half-centuries are spread across a career that is long enough to see the entire evolution of the competition, from his first season to his last.

5. KL Rahul

KL Rahul has scored 40 half-centuries in 145 matches between 2013 and 2025 and has scored more than 45 half-centuries in total. He has played for Delhi Capitals, Kings XI Punjab, Lucknow Super Giants, Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Six franchises in twelve seasons. Rahul has performed for all of them. He is a consistent batsman with a strong average who has anchored the innings and quick innings as the situation requires. Forty half-centuries in 145 matches is a frequency that very few batsmen on this list can match on a per-match basis. He hits them effectively and he hits them often.

6. AB de Villiers

AB de Villiers scored 40 half-centuries in 184 matches from 2008 to 2021, scoring a total of 43 half-centuries. He played for Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore. De Villiers holds the record for the most Man of the Match awards in IPL history and his 40 half-centuries make him very dangerous. He was a batsman who could score half-centuries in ways that other players could not even imagine. Shots that should not exist. Angles that seemed to not exist on the field. His half-centuries often felt like restraint. As if he was capable of doing something big but instead of chasing a century, he chose to win the match.

7. Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina scored 39 half-centuries in 205 matches between 2008 and 2021, scoring a total of 40 half-centuries. He played for Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Lions. Raina was one of the most reliable middle-order batsmen in IPL history and his consistency across thirteen seasons reflects a player who understood his role and played it without any deviation. He scored runs quickly and scored runs at those crucial moments and Chennai Super Kings used that as the foundation of their success during the Dhoni era. Thirty-nine half-centuries in 205 matches is a record for someone who was always ready to bat and almost always ready to contribute.

8. Faf du Plessis

Faf du Plessis scored 39 half-centuries in 154 matches between 2012 and 2025, scoring a total of 39 half-centuries. He played for Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rising Pune Supergiant. None of his 39 half-centuries were centuries. Each of his qualifying scores was between fifty and thirty-nine. He is the only player on this list who has not scored a T20 century in the IPL, which makes his consistency in reaching half-centuries without converting into three figures a statistical curiosity that does not diminish what he has achieved. Thirty-nine times he distinguished himself. Thirty-nine times he could have counted it.

9. Chris Gayle

Chris Gayle scored 31 half-centuries in 142 matches between 2009 and 2021, scoring a total of 37 half-centuries. He played for Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings XI Punjab, Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore. His 37 half-centuries included 6 centuries, which meant that a large portion of his qualifying innings did not stop at half-centuries. He continued. Gayle played the highest individual innings in IPL history, an unbeaten 175. His half-centuries were not always his most important contribution. His centuries were. But 31 half-centuries in thirteen seasons of IPL cricket show that even the biggest hitters in the competition can score innings when the situation demands it.

10. Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir scored 36 half-centuries in 154 matches between 2008 and 2018, scoring a total of 36 half-centuries. He represented Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders. Gambhir led KKR to two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014 and his batting at the top was built around those title-winning campaigns. He was a left-handed opener who valued his wickets and scored runs at an acceptable rate for the format. Thirty-six half-centuries without a century meant that every qualifying innings he played was between fifty and thirty-nine. He never fully converted. But he did score half-centuries 36 times and that was enough to win two championships.
