Rahul Chahar Claims Six-Wicket Haul for Surrey After Just One IPL 2026 Appearance

Indian leg-spinner Rahul Chahar took 6 wickets for 80 runs for Surrey against Essex in their English County Championship Division One game in Chelmsford on August 28.

After Surrey were bowled out for 183 in their first innings, Chahar returned brilliant figures of 6 wickets for 80 runs in 22 overs, including 4 maidens, as Essex were restricted to 279 in 85 overs.

Chahar leads Surrey’s bowling attack

Chahar picked up his first wicket in his ninth over when he dismissed Charlie Allison for 43 off 85 balls. He then struck twice in his 17th over, getting rid of Michael Pepper for 21 off 26 balls and Zaman Akhter for 0 off 2 balls.

Simon Harmer, who scored 8 off 27 balls, became Chahar’s fourth wicket before Jamie Porter, who scored 1 off 8 balls, was his fifth victim. He then dismissed Sam Cook, who scored 1 off 15 balls, to complete his six-wicket haul. He finished with figures of 6/80 from 22 overs. He also broke into a ‘bow’ celebration after the dismissals.

Apart from Chahar, Daniel Worrall took 2 wickets, while Tom Lawes and Mahipal Lomror picked up 1 wicket each as Essex were bowled out for 279 in 85 overs.

Surrey struggle against Essex

Essex won the toss and chose to bowl in their County Championship 2026 match against Surrey. Rory Burns’ team struggled in their first innings and were dismissed for 183 in 53.2 overs, with Sam Cook taking 3/41 and Zaman Akhter taking 3/36. Essex then got a major contribution from Dean Elgar, who scored 113 off 191 balls, hitting 14 fours and 1 six.
