Match Overview
Gujarat Titans defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 4 wickets in the 42nd match of IPL 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This is RCB’s third defeat this season. GT chased down 156 runs in just 15.5 overs, which led to 158 runs for 6 wickets.
RCB had a very bad day. They were all out for just 155 runs in 19.2 overs. That is not a strong score on this ground. GT’s bowlers did a great job of keeping RCB’s big hitters quiet. Arshad Khan, Rashid Khan and Jason Holder were the main wicket-takers.
In reply, GT captain Shubman Gill got out swinging. He scored 43 runs in just 18 balls – an amazing strike rate. Jos Buttler also played a quick 39 off 19 balls to chase down the target. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Romario Shepherd worked hard for RCB with regular wickets, but it wasn’t enough. GT crossed the line comfortably.

Gujarat Titans won the toss and decided to field first. This is a good decision. There is some grass on the surface of Ahmedabad, which gives some speed to the pace bowlers at the beginning. GT uses it cleverly.

Jason Holder got the Player of the Match award for his brilliant all-round performance. He takes 2 wickets with the ball, bowls smart lines on a difficult pitch. He gives away 29 runs in 4 overs, which is a really good effort in Ahmedabad where the ball usually goes too far. Then he comes with the bat and scores 12 runs in 10 balls at the right time to help GT cross the line. This is what a true all-rounder looks like.
After 7.3 overs, RCB are actually doing well at 79 for 2. Both Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma are at the crease and the game is still in RCB’s hands. But then – bang. Both bowl just four balls to each other. That collapse changes everything. RCB’s lower order can’t rebuild fast enough on this surface, and they fall well short of a match-winning total. Those four balls decide the match.
RCB start well but then lose wickets at the wrong time. The pitch has some initial pace and bounce, which GT’s bowlers make full use of. Arshad Khan bowls a beautiful spell and takes three wickets. Rashid Khan and Jason Holder add two each. RCB’s top order gives a start but fails to convert into a big innings. They are all out for 155 with 4 balls remaining in the innings. On this ground, 155 is not a competitive score.
GT come out with a lot of confidence. Shubman Gill seems to be in a completely different league. In the powerplay, he scores 43 runs in just 18 balls. That one innings basically turns the match around. Jos Buttler joins him and also scores a quick 39. Despite Bhuvneshwar Kumar taking 3 wickets and Romario Shepherd taking 2 wickets, GT have already scored enough runs in the powerplay to make the chase easy. They win with 4 overs to spare.
Gill says he is very happy with the way the team bowled and fielded today. He calls it a satisfying win. He says he feels in the zone during his batting and gets a little lucky on the first ball but then he knows that today is his day. He also praises Rahul Tewatia and says the team is using the timeout well to discuss their plan.
Patidar admits that the score is not good enough, but he sees positive aspects in the way his bowlers chased down to the 16th over. He says there is grass on the pitch which helps the fast bowlers, and Shubman bowls beautifully in the powerplay. He calls Bhuvneshwar Kumar an experienced bowler and is happy with the way Bhuvi is bowling. He also says that RCB give away a lot of wickets in the middle overs and they will learn from this match. He is calm and says that RCB still has a long way to go in the season.

GT has a lot of energy in bowling and fielding today. The pitch favours fast bowlers and GT have utilised it well. Shubman Gill‘s powerplay fireworks have made the chase easy. For RCB, this is a minor setback in a very good season so far. They have six wins from nine games and still look like a strong playoff team. GT, on the other hand, prove that they are not done yet. With five wins from nine games, they are staying in the race.
