India captain Shubman Gill and explosive opener Shafali Verma have been named the ICC Men’s and Women’s Players of the Month for September 2026, rewarding their outstanding performances across international cricket.

Gill claimed the men’s award after a remarkable ODI series against the West Indies, while Shafali earned the women’s honour following her impressive contributions to India’s Asia Cup and Asian Games triumphs. The double recognition marks another proud moment for Indian cricket, with both players playing key roles in the team’s recent success.

Shubman Gill Wins Record Fifth ICC Player of the Month Award

Gill has extended his record as the men’s player with the most ICC Player of the Month awards, securing the honour for the fifth time in his career.

The Indian captain produced a sensational performance against the West Indies, scoring 333 runs across the first two ODIs of the series. He began with a commanding 110 off 108 balls in the opening match in Thiruvananthapuram before delivering an unforgettable performance in Guwahati.

In the second ODI, Gill smashed an unbeaten 223 off just 133 deliveries, guiding India to a remarkable chase of 406. His innings included 26 fours and eight sixes, helping India reach the target with eight wickets in hand and 39 balls remaining.

The double century was the fastest in men’s ODI history and the highest individual score in a successful ODI run chase. Gill’s partnership of 255 runs with Rohit Sharma also played a crucial role in India’s historic victory.

Gill won the award ahead of fellow nominees Abhishek Sharma and Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza.

Shafali Verma Rewarded for Outstanding September

Shafali Verma claimed the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for the second time, following her earlier success in November 2025.

The Indian opener enjoyed an exceptional month, making important contributions to India’s title-winning campaigns in the Women’s Asia Cup and the Asian Games.

She finished as the leading run-scorer in the Women’s Asia Cup, accumulating 236 runs in five innings. Her performances included a 64-run knock against Bangladesh in the semi-final and 68 runs in the final against Sri Lanka, helping India secure another continental title.

Shafali continued her impressive form at the Asian Games in Japan, scoring 188 runs across three innings. Her standout performance came in the semi-final against Bangladesh, where she smashed her maiden T20I century, scoring 100 off just 49 balls.

She also contributed with the ball, taking six wickets across the Asia Cup and Asian Games combined. Her all-round impact helped India secure the gold medal at the Asian Games, making her one of the standout performers of the month.

Shafali won the women’s award ahead of Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu and Indian spinner Sree Charani.

India Dominate Both ICC Awards

Gill and Shafali winning the men’s and women’s awards highlights India’s strength across both sides of the international game.

For Gill, the recognition further strengthens his standing as one of the leading batters in world cricket. His record-breaking performances against the West Indies demonstrated his ability to control high-pressure chases and deliver when his team needed him most.

For Shafali, the award reflects her growing influence as an aggressive opening batter and a valuable all-round option for India.

Both players will now look to carry their momentum into upcoming international assignments. With major tournaments on the horizon, their continued form could prove important as India aims to build on its recent successes.
