IND vs ZIM: Abhishek Sharma Creates History with Another Big Milestone

India all-rounder Abhishek Sharma created history by posting the best bowling figures by an Indian opener in T20I cricket during the second T20I against Zimbabwe on July 25. The left-arm spinner set a new record in the shorter format, surpassing all previous performances by an Indian opener with figures of 3/17. His three-wicket spell helped India beat Zimbabwe by 90 runs and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

The 24-year-old now has 11 wickets in 36 T20I innings, cementing his claim as one of India’s most exciting all-rounders. Be it with bat or ball, Abhishek has been a consistently important player for the Indian team.

Abhishek Joins India’s Opening Legends

Abhishek’s achievement now joins two famous performances by Indian openers in other formats. Vinu Mankad still holds the Test record after taking 8 wickets for 52 runs against Pakistan in 1952, while Ravi Shastri’s 5 wickets for 15 runs against Australia in 1991 is the best bowling figures in ODIs by an Indian opener.

Abhishek Makes an Impact with the Ball

Abhishek had a poor time with the bat after Blessing Muzarabani dismissed him, but he quickly made up for it with the ball. The left-arm spinner, who was brought into the attack as a part-time bowling option, took three wickets and ensured that Zimbabwe could not build any momentum in their chase of 220.

Zimbabwe suffered a major blow when Brian Bennett’s aggressive opening innings came to an end. The visitors then continued to take wickets at regular intervals. Abhishek took three wickets, while Yash Thakur and Prince Yadav took two wickets each as Zimbabwe were bowled out for 129.

Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma Set Up India’s Total

Earlier, India were struggling at 29/2 before Ishan Kishan and Tilak Verma opened the innings. Kishan scored a brilliant 81 and took control of the innings and then increased the scoring rate. Tilak remained unbeaten on 60 as his easy half-century helped India reach 219/5.

India’s bowlers then finished the match in impressive fashion, with Abhishek setting a new record for an Indian opener to add the finishing touch to the victory.

India Secure Series Win Under Shreyas Iyer

India’s emphatic win in Harare gave them an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The result gave Shreyas Iyer his first series win since becoming India’s T20I captain.

The visitors responded strongly after disappointing results in their previous series against Ireland and England. They won the 3-match T20I series against Zimbabwe 3-0 at the Harare Sports Club on July 26, 2026.
