Indian captain Shreyas Iyer created another unprecedented record in his captaincy career by winning the toss in the fourth T20I match between India and England. This is because Iyer became only the second Indian captain to win six consecutive tosses in his T20I captaincy, equaling Virat Kohli’s record and breaking Rohit Sharma’s record of winning five tosses in T20Is.
While winning the toss is not a measure of greatness, Cricbites feels that this record is a testament to Iyer’s successful start as India’s T20I captain.
Ahead of the fourth T20I against England, Iyer once again called correctly at the toss to make it six wins in a row as captain in T20 internationals. With this, he joined Virat Kohli as the Indian captain with the second-most consecutive toss wins in T20Is.
| Rank | Captain | Consecutive Toss Wins |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | MS Dhoni | 9 |
| 2 | Virat Kohli | 6 |
| 3 | Shreyas Iyer | 6 |
| 4 | Rohit Sharma | 5 |
The feat also means that Iyer has overtaken Rohit Sharma, who previously held the third spot with five successive toss victories as captain in the shortest format.
Interestingly, Iyer’s toss winning streak began soon after he took charge of the Indian team in the ongoing England series. His consistency in the toss has earned him a place in the team of players like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Winning the toss does not always guarantee victory. Yet it often gives teams a tactical advantage. Especially in T20 cricket where situations can change quickly during a match. Therefore, Iyer’s impressive streak has become one of the talking points of India’s tour of England.

Shreyas Iyer has gradually emerged as one of India’s most trusted leaders, having been successful across all formats and franchises of cricket. He successfully led the team in the IPL. The Mumbai batsman is now getting the chance to lead the national team in T20Is.
At just 31 years old, Iyer has already made it onto many best captaincy lists and continues to cement his place as a future long-term leadership option for India. Iyer’s latest achievement is another reminder that he is building an impressive captaincy reputation.
Shreyas Iyer’s success in winning the toss for the sixth consecutive match may seem strange. But he has earned a place in India’s record books alongside Virat Kohli and left Rohit Sharma behind. With MS Dhoni’s record of nine consecutive tosses still ahead of him, the Indian captain now has another milestone in sight as his captaincy journey gathers momentum.
