Ben Stokes, full name Benjamin Andrew Stokes (born 4 June 1991), is a renowned English international cricketer and the captain of the England Test team. He plays for England in all three formats of cricket. Stokes is considered one of England’s greatest all-rounders of all time. In domestic cricket, he plays for Durham and also participates in various T20 leagues around the world. He was a key member of the England teams that won the 2019 Cricket World Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup.

Early life

Benjamin Andrew Stokes was born on June 4, 1991 in Christchurch, New Zealand. He is the son of Gerard Stokes, who worked as a rugby league player and coach. Ben’s mother is of Māori descent.
In 2003, when Ben was 12 years old, his family moved to England as his father became head coach of Workington Town Rugby League Football Club. The family settled in the town of Cockermouth, West Cumbria. During this time, Ben attended Cockermouth School.

While there, he learned to play for Cockermouth Cricket Club and developed his cricketing skills. At just 15 years old, he helped the team win the North Lancashire & Cumbria Cricket League Premier Division title in 2006.

Domestic career

Stokes made his List A debut for Durham at The Oval in 2009. He took the wicket of veteran batsman Mark Ramprakash on his third ball in professional cricket. That same year, he played two youth Test matches against the Bangladesh Under-19 team, where he scored a half-century and also took several wickets. He then participated in the 2010 Under-19 World Cup and scored a century against the India Under-19 team.

In February 2017, Stokes joined Rising Pune Supergiant for the 2017 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
