Match Overview
What a night in Dharamshala! Delhi Capitals achieved a feat that no one expected. They chased down 211 runs in just 19 overs at the HPCA Stadium – the biggest chase ever at this ground. The mountains are watching. The crowd is on their feet. And two players, David Miller and Axar Patel, write their names in the history books with the most thrilling chase of IPL 2026.
Punjab Kings batted first and scored 210 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs. That seems to be enough on this big ground at altitude. But Delhi Capitals have other ideas. They lose three wickets inside the powerplay and the situation looks very bad. Yet Miller and Axar come along and change everything. Their stand of 64 runs in just 34 balls completely changed the game. DC won by 3 wickets with 3 overs to spare and completed the chase.
For Punjab Kings, this is their fourth consecutive defeat. They need to win at least two of their last three games to secure a place in the playoffs. On the other hand, DC keep their hopes alive and stay in the competition.

Dharamshala’s HPCA Stadium is nestled in the high mountains. The air is thin. The ball travels far. And Priyansh Arya makes full use of it.
Mitchell Starc opens the bowling for Delhi Capitals. Priyansh hits him for a six on the very first ball. The over goes for 22 runs. Yes, 22 in just one over. Priyansh doesn’t stop there. He goes behind Lungi Ngidi. Then Mukesh Kumar. DC conceded 51 runs in the first three overs. It’s a powerplay nightmare for the visiting team.
Priyansh scored 56 runs in 33 balls with six sixes. He plays as if he’s on fire. His opening partner Prabhasimran Singh scores 18 runs in 15 balls before he gets out, but Priyansh continues the onslaught at the other end.
But DC’s bowlers are settling down. Aqib Nabi finds something smart – instead of bowling a full, he keeps his length back. He seams the ball from the surface. In the second half of the powerplay, Priyansh struggles to bring the ball down. Then in the ninth over, Madhav Tiwary catches Priyansh at deep point. PBKS are 107/2 after 10 overs – a good score, but the early burst has cooled.
Shreyas Iyer and Cooper Connolly then put on an 83-run partnership for the third wicket. Shreyas remained unbeaten on 59 off 36 balls. But Punjab slow down in the middle overs. They can’t change gears quickly.
In the 19th over, Mitchell Starc takes two wickets in two consecutive balls, including both Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh. But Suryansh Shedge immediately brings the crowd to life by hitting two huge sixes off Starc. Then Lungi Ngidi bowls a brilliant final over, taking Punjab Kings to exactly 210. A big total, but not a monster.
DC need 211 in 20 overs. That’s a big ask anywhere. In Dharamsala, with the ball moving early, it looks almost impossible.
And it gets worse very quickly.
In the Powerplay, Punjab Kings strike three times. Yash Thakur gets the seam back on the very first ball, sharp and clean, Abhishek Porel – middle stump knockout. Then Arshdeep Singh, who has been very expensive this season but is bowling brilliantly tonight, gets KL Rahul caught at fine leg after a poorly timed pull shot. Young Sahil Parakh looks good and hits a few beautiful strokes before Arshdeep pulls him for space and gets him caught at short third man.
At the end of the Powerplay, DC’s score is 47 for 3. More trouble is to come. Tristan Stubbs is run out and DC fall to 74 for 4. The match seems to be over. Punjab fans start celebrating. But cricket never ends till the last ball.
David Miller comes to the crease. Axar Patel is already there. Between them, he needs to do something special.
And that is exactly what they do.
Miller is quiet at first. He respects the good balls. But when the bad balls come, he hits them for boundaries and beyond. Axar is the more aggressive of the two at first. He uses his long arm and hits them easily on the ground and over mid-wicket.
Together they score 64 runs in just 34 balls. That is almost 2 runs per ball – a very quick score in a pressured chase. Miller scores 51 runs in 28 balls. Axar scores 56 runs in 30 balls. The two of them look like they are playing a friendly practice game, not a high-pressure IPL chase.
When they both get out, Ashutosh Sharma chips in with a quick 24 and Madhav Tiwary makes a crucial unbeaten 18 with 18. DC keeps scoring over-by-over.
Finally, they win with one over to spare. 211 runs in 19 overs. A new record at the HPCA Stadium. Delhi Capitals players jump for joy. Axar Patel raises both hands towards the sky. The dugout explodes.
Axar Patel (Delhi Capitals)
Axar Patel wins the Player of the Match award. He scores a stunning 56 off 30 balls as captain and leads his team from the front when everything looks lost. He hits four fours and four sixes and never looks scared or nervous. A true captain’s knock.

For Delhi Capitals: DC are still mathematically alive in the tournament. They now have 10 points from 12 games. They need to win all three remaining matches and hope that other results go in their favour. It is a very tough task, but tonight will really give them confidence. The way Miller and Akshar chased down this total shows that DC have a match winner.
For Punjab Kings: PBKS now have 13 points from 11 games. After going unbeaten in the first half of the tournament, they have lost 4 consecutive matches. They still have 3 games left and need at least 2 wins to reach the playoffs. Their batting is still good – Priyansh Arya showed that again tonight – but their bowling needs to be smarter in critical moments.
