Match Overview
Sunrisers Hyderabad are coming off a 10-run win over Chennai Super Kings in the 27th match of IPL 2026 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. SRH posted a strong score of 194 for 9 in 20 overs and then restricted CSK to 184/8 through disciplined bowling. This match is very exciting from start to finish, but SRH is enough to get two important points.
Abhishek Sharma started the game by scoring 59 runs in just 22 balls at the top of the innings. His innings sets everything up for SRH. Then comes Henrik Klaasen and brings the innings back after the collapse of the middle overs, scoring 59 runs in 39 balls. On the bowling side, Ishan Malinga took 3 wickets for just 29 runs and won the Player of the Match award for opening the CSK chase at the right time.
CSK are in the game till the last few overs. Ayush Mhatre gives them a banging start. Matthew Short and Sarfaraz Khan try to keep the chase going. But SRH bowlers keep taking wickets at crucial moments, and CSK eventually fall behind by 10 runs.

This match has it all. SRH bat first and make a competitive score, thanks largely to their top order. Abhishek Sharma destroys the CSK bowlers from the very first ball, and Klaasen makes amends in the second half of the innings. CSK bowl well, taking 9 wickets, but still giving away 194 runs.
While chasing, CSK start with a lot of energy. Mhatre takes control of the game immediately. But every time CSK think of making something, SRH take a wicket. Malinga is the key man with the ball – his three wickets in the middle and death overs take the game away from CSK.
SRH deserved the win on the night. They bat better in the main stages and bowl smarter when it matters.

Abhishek Sharma comes to bat and doesn’t play a single quiet ball. He hits the first ball with purpose and moves on. In just 22 balls, he scores 59 with 6 fours and 4 sixes. His strike rate of 268.18 is the best you will see in an IPL innings. He and Travis Head put on 75 runs in just 34 balls for the opening wicket. CSK have no answer for him in the Powerplay. Mukesh Chaudhary finally gets him caught by Jamie Overton, but by then the damage is already done. SRH reach 75/1 in less than 6 overs.
This innings becomes the fastest fifty for any SRH batsman in IPL history – 15 balls. Abhishek also became the second fastest player to score 2000 IPL runs, achieving the milestone in just 1193 balls.
After Abhishek’s departure, CSK make a beautiful comeback. Mukesh Chaudhary dismisses Ishan Kishan for a duck on the very next ball. Overton then dismisses Nitish Kumar Reddy, and SRH forget their way. At one point SRH are 93/3 in 8 overs, when they were 75/0 just two overs ago. CSK are fully back in the game at this point.
This is where Heinrich Klaasen steps up and shows why SRH have so much faith in him. He comes in as the innings collapse and plays with complete composure. He doesn’t try to hit sixes on every ball. He partnered with Aniket Verma, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Salil Arora, scoring 59 runs off 39 balls. He also completed 100 sixes in his IPL career during this innings. His innings takes SRH to 177/6 by the 17th over and gives the lower order something to work with.
CSK do well to get things back on track in the death overs. Overton and Kamboj take 6 wickets together. Livingstone and Shivang Kumar both fall in the last two overs, and SRH lose 4 wickets for just 31 runs in the last four overs. But 194/9 is still a good score on this ground.
CSK lose Sanju Samson early in the second over, but Ayush Mhatre shows no fear. He plays and swings like an impressive player. He scored 30 runs in just 13 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. At the end of 4 overs, CSK reached 60/1 – CSK’s 5th highest Powerplay score in the IPL. CSK are on track for victory. But then Mhatre pulls a hamstring, starts struggling to run, and Nitish Kumar Reddy dismisses him in the next over. That is a turning point in the match.
Ruturaj Gaekwad comes in to chase but Ishan Malinga dismisses him for 19 off the very first ball given to the CSK captain. It is a big blow. CSK are now 64/3 in 5 overs, and the required run rate is starting to rise.
Matthew Short and Sarfaraz Khan are forming a partnership and are looking good together. They have scored 46 runs and have taken CSK to a place where the game is very lively. At the halfway mark, CSK need 84 runs from 60 balls with seven wickets in hand. On paper, it still looks possible. But SRH are not done yet.
Ishan Malinga is the match-winner for SRH with the ball. He takes a short catch in the 15th over, then dismisses Sarfaraz early in his spell – two important batsmen gone in the crucial phase. Dewald Brevis is out for a duck. The run rate required for CSK’s lower order is now very intense. Dube and Overton try to bowl big but SRH bowl tight and smart.
The last four overs were very intense. CSK needed 46 runs off 24 balls in the 17th over, but SRH gave away just 6 runs in that over. The final over cost just 7 runs. CSK finished on 184/8 – 10 runs short of what they needed. SRH celebrated a hard-fought win at home.
Malinga is the smartest bowler on the night. He takes 3 wickets for 29 runs in 4 overs and bowls at the right time. He takes big wickets of Gaekwad, Sarfaraz and Short – CSK’s three main batsmen – and his dismissals make it difficult to chase. He uses his pace cleverly and does not let CSK hit the ball easily. Fully deserves the Player of the Match award.
Best innings of the match. Pure power hitting from the very first ball. Abhishek gave SRH a platform that no one else could have created in such a short span of time. His six sixes are the highlight of the evening, and his strike rate of 268 is simply outstanding. This is one of the best powerplay knocks of IPL 2026 so far.
The quiet hero. While Abhishek grabs everyone’s attention, Klaasen does the real building work. He holds the innings together in the middle and lower order, makes important partnerships and scores 59 runs at a strike rate of 151. Without his innings, SRH might have scored less than 170 runs. He also became the first player to complete 100 IPL sixes during this innings and hit 300 sixes in T20 cricket.
Playing as an impact player, Mhatre starts the game from the very first ball. He hits four boundaries in the powerplay and gives CSK the best possible start to the chase. His injury is the turning point of the CSK innings. If he had stayed fit, CSK could have chased down this target.
Short comes under pressure and tries to keep the run rate under control. He makes 34 runs but can’t find the big shots when CSK need them the most in the last five overs. He got Malinga out at the crucial moment.
CSK’s best bowler of the night. Overton uses his versatility well and takes three wickets, including Abhishek Sharma, Aniket Verma and Shivang Kumar. He does a good job of pulling the innings back in the middle overs.
Kamboj is excellent in the death overs. He took 3 wickets in 3 overs and gave away just 22 runs, which is excellent bowling in the death. Without his tight bowling at the end, SRH could have scored 210 or more.
