Sunrisers Leeds finally returned to winning ways in the Women’s Hundred 2026, after a difficult run of losses. There was a hard-fight five-wicket victory over London Spirit. Australian all-rounder Annabel Sutherland produced a calm, unbeaten knock under pressure, guiding her side over the finish line and keeping their playoff hopes alive.

It was a good win to stop the losing streak and to show the ability of the team to fight under pressure after a poor middle-order batting performance in the previous game. Sutherland’s composed innings, backed by valuable contributions from Phoebe Litchfield, Jess Jonassen, and the bowlers, proved decisive.

London Spirit Post a Competitive 136

After winning the toss, the Sunrisers Leeds opted to field first. London Spirit started brightly as Amy Jones and Grace Harris stitched together an aggressive opening partnership. Jones looked fluent before falling for 24, while Harris continued to attack the bowlers and completed a well-made half-century. Her 51 runs formed the backbone of Spirit’s innings as they looked set for an even bigger total.

However, Sunrisers pulled things back brilliantly in the second half of the innings.

Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma struck twice at crucial moments. While Hannah Baker also gained two wickets to halt London’s momentum. Their bowling effort restricted Spirit to 136/7 in 100 balls. It is a total that appeared competitive on a surface offering assistance to both batters and bowlers.

Litchfield Provides Flying Start

Chasing 137, Sunrisers Leeds made an excellent start thanks to Phoebe Litchfield, who was promoted to open the innings. The Australian left-hander attacked from the outset, striking boundaries freely and helping Leeds race beyond the 50-run mark inside the first third of the chase. Litchfield smashed 30 off just 17 deliveries, while Bryony Smith also played positively. At that stage, Leeds looked in complete control.

Middle-Order Collapse Raises Tension

Sunrisers appeared to be cruising at a point. That’s when London Spirit fought back with a flurry of wickets. Katie George triggered the collapse by dismissing Litchfield before Smith also departed shortly after. Leeds suddenly slipped from a commanding position to 59/3, bringing Spirit firmly back into the contest. Charlie Dean and George tightened the screws, forcing the chasing side to rebuild instead of attacking freely.

Sutherland Holds Her Nerve

With wickets falling around her, Annabel Sutherland played exactly the innings her side required. Instead of chasing quick boundaries, she focused on rotating the strike, absorbing pressure. This ensured Leeds remained in the contest. She built an important 48-run partnership with Dani Gibson, whose valuable 25 helped steady the innings after the collapse.

Even after Gibson and Deepti Sharma were dismissed in the closing stages, Sutherland stayed calm. Jess Jonassen then delivered a crucial cameo, striking an important boundary at the beginning of the final five-ball set before Sutherland finished the contest in style by launching Nadine de Klerk over the midwicket boundary for six. Her unbeaten 37 off 21 balls sealed a memorable victory with three balls remaining.

Why This Win Matters

The victory came at an important stage of the tournament. Sunrisers Leeds had suffered multiple defeats before this fixture and desperately needed points to remain in contention for the knockout stages. Winning under pressure after losing quick wickets during the chase will boost the team’s confidence.

The performances of their overseas stars also showed the depth within the squad. Litchfield provided explosive intent at the top. Deepti delivered with the ball, Jonassen played the finisher’s role, and Sutherland once again proved why she is regarded as one of the world’s finest all-rounders.
