A new era in Indian cricket began when young Vaibhav Suryavanshi created history. The incident happened during the second T20I against England at Old Trafford. At just 15 years and 99 days, the left-handed batsman became the youngest player to represent India in international cricket. He broke the record held by the great Sachin Tendulkar for over three decades.
After this historic debut, Suryavanshi has become one of the biggest talking points in world cricket.
Sachin Tendulkar made his international debut against Pakistan in Karachi in November 1989 at the age of 16 years and 205 days. This record remained intact for almost 37 years, until Suryavanshi stepped into the field for India against England in July 2026.
The young player from Bihar made his debut at the age of 15 years and 99 days. He became not only India’s youngest male international cricketer, but also the youngest player to represent the country at the senior international level.

Suryavanshi’s rise has been phenomenal. The Samastipur-born batsman first caught the eye with his performances in age-group cricket and then rose to fame in domestic cricket and the IPL. His fearless batting style and clean ball striking have been compared to some of India’s best young talents.
The youngster enjoyed a sensational IPL stint with Rajasthan Royals, finishing among the tournament’s top run-scorers and breaking records for hitting sixes. His performances eventually led the selectors to include him in the Indian team.

The occasion was historic. Suryavanshi immediately showed his immense potential. Opening the innings, Kishore played fearlessly and scored 14 runs in 10 balls. This included two powerful sixes against the England bowling attack before being dismissed by Will Jacks.
Interestingly, Suryavanshi’s achievement goes beyond men’s cricket. She has also surpassed the record for the youngest Indian international player in both men’s and women’s cricket. The previous overall record was held by Shafali Verma, who made her debut for India in 2019 at the age of 15 years and 239 days. Suryavanshi has topped that list too, having made her debut at the age of 15 years and 99 days.
Cricket experts often emphasize his fearless approach. Suryavanshi has an aggressive mindset. His performances for India Under-19, India A and Rajasthan Royals suggest that Indian cricket may have got another generation of talent.
Breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record is no ordinary feat, but Vaibhav Suryavanshi has done it before he turned 16. Records can be broken, but the expectations that come with them are often difficult to handle.
As always, cricketers will continue to track every milestone in the rise of India’s new cricketing sensation.
