WTC 2027 Final Confirmed at The Oval: Date, Venue & Latest Update
The ICC has confirmed that the 2027 World Test Championship final will be held at The Oval in London, and the matches are scheduled to take place from Wednesday, June 9 to Sunday, June 13, 2027. This is the second time the WTC final has been hosted at the famous London ground, after Australia defeated India to win their maiden World Test Championship title in 2023.
The announcement comes a month after the ICC described the Lord’s pitch used for the first Test between England and New Zealand as ‘unsatisfactory’. Lord’s was previously expected to host the 2027 final, as it did in 2025.
England will remain the host nation for the World Test Championship final after being awarded the rights to host the 2027, 2029 and 2031 editions by the ICC. The England and Wales Cricket Board will decide which venue to use.
The 2027 final will add to the significance of cricket as it completes 150 years of Test cricket. As The Oval is one of the game’s historic grounds, it will provide the backdrop for the start of another chapter in the history of the longest format.

WTC Race Enters a Crucial Stage
With less than a year left in the current 2025-27 cycle, Australia are top of the standings, having won seven of their eight matches. Defending champions South Africa and New Zealand are also in good shape to make it to the finals.
India, who have reached the WTC final twice, are currently fifth and will need strong results to secure a place in the top two. The competition is set to get tougher in the coming months, with several important series coming up.
West Indies will face Pakistan in a two-Test series starting July 25, while Australia will face Bangladesh in August. India will then play Sri Lanka in a two-Test series starting August 15, with Pakistan also touring England for three Tests in August and September.
Australia currently leads the WTC standings with 87.50 per cent points, while defending champions South Africa are second with 75 per cent points. New Zealand, Bangladesh and India are third, fourth and fifth respectively. Sri Lanka, England, West Indies and Pakistan are ranked sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth respectively.

The Oval Set for 2027 Ashes
The Oval will also be one of the grounds used for the 2027 Ashes, which is scheduled to begin a few days after the WTC final. England and Australia will face each other in a five-Test series from June 18 to August 2, 2027.
The series will begin at Trent Bridge and then move to Lord’s, Edgbaston and the Utility Bowl, where the Oval will host the fifth and final Test match.
The 2027 WTC final will therefore mark the start of a major summer of Test cricket in England. One of cricket’s oldest and most celebrated rivalries will be played immediately after the game’s biggest championship match.
