Match Preview

Delhi couldn’t handle KKR on the night of 8 May 2026. Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium became the stage for one of the most one-sided results of IPL 2026. Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Delhi Capitals by 8 wickets to register their fourth consecutive win. There were two clear stories in this match. First, KKR’s spinners took the life out of DC’s batting. Then, Finn Allen came into the field as an impact player and scored such a powerful century that he finished the game in just 14.2 overs.

KKR chased down 143 runs with 34 balls to spare. This number alone tells you everything about how this game is going.

Toss and Match Start

KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane wins the toss and decides to bowl first. He reads the pitch well. The surface of the Arun Jaitley stadium is tired at this stage of the season. It is slow and low. It helps the spinners a lot. Rahane supports his bowlers and it proves to be a perfect decision.

DC Innings: 142/8 in 20 Overs

Delhi start with a deliberate intention. Openers Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul start looking positive. Rahul hits some clean shots early on and scores 23 off 14 balls. During his innings, he became the first player in IPL history to score 1,000 runs for three different franchises – he did so for PBKS, LSG and now DC. He also broke the record for the fastest 1,000 runs for Delhi Capitals, completing it in just 24 innings.

But Kartik Tyagi bowls a superb slow over and Rahul is out.

Nissanka steps up. He plays beautifully and scores 50 off 29 balls. But the moment he reaches the landmark, things go wrong for Delhi. Anukul Roy steps up with two big hits in the same over. He stumps Nissanka on smart bowling first. Then in the same over, he dismisses Tristan Stubbs. KKR’s spinners now completely suppress Delhi’s middle order.

Sunil Narine is excellent in his four overs. He doesn’t hit any fours or sixes. He gives away just 17 runs. DC’s batsmen can’t touch him at all.

Delhi captain Axar Patel comes in and struggles a lot. He scores just 11 runs in 22 balls. The pitch doesn’t help the batsmen and KKR’s spinners don’t give up anything.

Towards the end of the innings, Ashutosh Sharma refuses to give up. He hits three consecutive fours after a long quiet period and scores 39 runs in 28 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes. Ashutosh has a fighting cricket. But Delhi can only score 142 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs. On this pitch, it looks like it could be 30 or 40 runs short.

Finn Allen Changes Everything

KKR lost two early wickets. Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed for 13 and Angkrish Raghuvanshi was dismissed cheaply. KKR made 31 for 2. Delhi fans started to get optimistic. But Finn Allen is already at the crease and he has no intention of making this a contest.

Allen came in as an impact player in place of Varun Chakravarthy. He became the most impressive option of the match.

In the first half of his innings, Allen is patient and correct. The pitch does not make batting easy and he understands that. He waits. He watches. And then in the second half of the chase, he absolutely explodes.

Allen hits boundaries like sixes. He hits a total of 10 maximums. He also hits 5 fours. His bat swings hard and every shot lands in the stands or runs towards the boundary. DC bowlers don’t know how to stop him.

Cameron Green looks on from the other end and plays perfectly. He scores 33 runs off 27 balls and never gets in Allen’s way. Together, the two put on an unbroken partnership of 116 runs off just 64 balls.

The final ball of the match becomes the moment of drama. KKR need six runs to win. Allen needs six runs to complete his century. He swings hard, connects perfectly and the ball flies into the stands. Both sixes to win the match and his century off just 47 balls. The reaction from the crowd is electric.

Allen remains unbeaten on 100 runs off 47 balls – 5 fours and 10 sixes. This is his maiden IPL century. This is one of the most impressive impact player innings in IPL 2026.

Anukul Roy’s double strike: Roy bowls the most important over of DC’s innings. First he stumps Nissanka as she completes her fifty. Then in the same over he removes the stumps. DC completely breaks down from what looked like a good spot in just a few balls.

Roy’s diving catch: While fielding at deep midwicket, Roy runs at full speed to his left, dives, catches the ball near the boundary, loses his balance, falls – and somehow holds on. It’s one of the best catches of IPL 2026.

Allen’s century on the last ball: The last delivery of the match. KKR need a six to win. Allen needs a six to make his century. He hits it straight and clean. The ball crosses the boundary. The match is over. Allen raises the bat. 100 runs are written on the scoreboard. This is a moment that cricket fans will remember for a long time.

DC’s middle order collapse: After Nissanka was dismissed in the 11th over, DC could only score 93 runs in overs 1-10 and 49 runs in overs 11-20. This collapse ended DC’s chances of making a competitive score.

Player of the Match

Finn Allen — 100 off 47 balls (5 fours, 10 sixes) | SR: 212.76*

There is no other option. On a pitch where it is difficult for every other batsman to score runs freely, Allen turns the chase into a highlight reel. He waits for the right moment and then attacks without mercy. His maiden IPL century comes at the right time for KKR and he finishes the game 34 balls ahead of schedule.
