SRH captain Pat Cummins was awarded the Player of the Match award for his all-round performance. He took 2 wickets for 34 runs in 4 overs and also took 2 important catches in the fielding. He completely set the tone by dismissing Priyansh Arya in his very first over and destroying Punjab’s powerplay plan before it even started. His calm leadership and sharp cricketing thinking made him the best performer of the night.
PBKS drop three catches – This is the moment when the match changes. Punjab Kings get three chances to dismiss Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen but throw them all down. Those two batsmen scored quick half-centuries and put on a huge partnership of 88 runs. PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer also admitted after the match that if those catches had been taken, they could have restricted SRH to a much lower score.
Pat Cummins destroys the powerplay – When Punjab Kings need a quick start to chase, Cummins takes the new ball and immediately dismisses the top order. At 23/3 in four overs, the game is practically over.
Connolly’s only century – Cooper Connolly refuses to give up. He hits a brilliant century and almost makes the match interesting again, but the gap is too wide and no other batsman gives him proper support.
Cricbites brings you the key words from Pat Cummins after the win:
“Punjab are a really good team. I thought what we did as batsmen was sensational. I think we are very good at playing at our own pace – not trying to start conservatively. I am very happy. I am happy that I was able to contribute.”
Cummins also says that the pitch has a bit of grip in the evenings, which suits SRH’s bowling style, and he feels the team knows how to deal with any situation at this venue.
“I think it was a bit too much because we dropped a lot of catches early on. We could have easily reduced their score by 30 to 40 runs. They played comprehensive cricket and showed us how to win.”
Iyer praised Cooper Connolly, saying his mentality is top-notch and he has a special ability to score big runs in pressure situations. He also said that the team needs to bounce back, reflect and come back strong after three consecutive defeats.

SRH are playing their best cricket tonight. Every department is performing together – the openers are giving a banging start, the middle order is scoring quickly, and the bowlers are taking wickets early. Punjab Kings are a strong team, but dropping three catches on a flat pitch is very expensive. Cooper Connolly is playing a really special innings but one player alone cannot win a T20.
SRH are now sitting at number one and look like serious title contenders. PBKS need to bounce back quickly as the playoff race heats up.
