Run chases in ODIs often demonstrate a team’s ability to withstand pressure and maintain scoring consistency for 50 overs. Women’s ODI cricket was once ruled by modest targets. However, now the game has seen teams score scores that were once considered impossible. Improved batting and an aggressive approach have led to many record-breaking runs. The change in the playing environment was another reason.

According to Cricbites, the list of most successful run chases in women’s ODI cricket includes some memorable performances in this format. The standards of batting in international women’s cricket have risen, and that is evident from India’s prestigious 341-run chase against Australia in 2025 and Sri Lanka’s 305-run chase against South Africa in 2024.

India- 341

India holds the record for the most successful run chase in women’s ODIs. India successfully chased down a difficult target of 341 against Australia at the DY Patil Cricket Stadium in Navi Mumbai on 30 October 2025. The chase broke all records. It also showed India’s ability to compete with one of the strongest teams in world cricket. Chasing a target of more than 340 runs in women’s ODIs is one of the greatest batting feats in the format.

Australia – 331

A few weeks before India’s record-breaking attempt, Australia had set a benchmark by successfully chasing 331 against India at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on 12 October 2025. Although the record was short-lived, it remains the second most successful chase in women’s ODI cricket.

Sri Lanka – 305

Sri Lanka became the first team in women’s ODI history to successfully chase a target of 300+ runs, scoring 305 against South Africa at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom on 17 April 2024. The victory was a landmark moment for Sri Lankan women’s cricket and significantly raised expectations of what teams could achieve when batting second.

Australia – 289

Before the era of frequent 300-plus runs, Australia’s 289-run chase against New Zealand at North Sydney Oval on 14 December 2012 was one of the greatest ODI chases. The innings demonstrated Australia’s dominance in women’s cricket and remained one of the most successful run chases for over a decade.

Australia – 285

Australia appears on this list several times, showing their strength under pressure. Their 285 against India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai was another example.

Australia – 282

Australia’s third entry into the top seven came on 14 September 2025 at the Mullanpur Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh. Chasing 282 against India, they once again showed their batting depth and experience. The result sealed Australia’s reputation as one of the most successful chasing teams in women’s ODI cricket.

New Zealand – 280

New Zealand made it to the list with a successful chase of 280 against India at the John Davis Oval in Queenstown on 16 February 2022. The chase was a remarkable achievement, especially considering the pressure to make significant scores in ODI cricket. It is one of the most successful run chases ever recorded in the women’s game.

The evolution of ODI run chases

One notable trend from this list is the concentration of records in recent years. Five of the seven most successful chases have taken place since 2023. It shows how quickly women’s cricket is evolving. Teams are scoring faster, batting better and tackling run chases with more confidence than ever before.
