After losing to England, Team India will be hoping to make a strong comeback when they meet Zimbabwe in the upcoming three-match T20I series at the Harare Sports Club. India have enjoyed plenty of success against Zimbabwe in the past, which puts them in a strong position to start the series as favourites. The Indian team last travelled to Zimbabwe two years ago, soon after lifting the 2024 T20 World Cup trophy.
The upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe could also be the perfect stage for Mayank Yadav to make his international comeback. Everyone is excited to see his raw pace back in action. He actually made his India debut against Bangladesh back on October 6, 2024, and featured again later in that same series. He has got four wickets from his three T20Is so far, but this series is all about what he can do next.
For almost two years, Mayank Yadav’s time with the Indian team has been more memorable for his injury updates than his performances with the ball. His return to the team for the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe is significant for one straightforward reason.
India gets one of its fastest bowlers back, while Mayank gets another chance to get his career back on track after repeated injury problems.
Not many fast bowlers in the world have the natural ability to bowl as fast as Mayank. When he first hit the headlines in the IPL in 2024, bowling at speeds in excess of 150 kmph became commonplace for him. His bowling came with a sharp bounce on the batsman, making him difficult to handle.
Mayank’s performance earned him a place in the Indian team and a special fast bowler contract from the BCCI. At that time, India seemed to have discovered a rare pace talent. The big challenge was to keep him fit and give him a chance to show what he could do.

He suffered a stress fracture in his back shortly after entering international cricket, which halted his progress. While he was recovering, another unusual injury further delayed his comeback.
When he finally returned during IPL 2026, his performances were not encouraging: no wickets in four matches, an economy rate of over 11 per over and a speed of 130 runs at 150 km per over, and sometimes bowling up to 140.
The Zimbabwe series will not provide definitive answers to these questions. It offers him a chance to play regularly, which India often uses to assess players beyond their basic stats in such series. For Mayank, the key will be to put together a full spell, get back to his best pace, execute his plans and, most importantly, complete all three matches again without a dip in fitness.
India are heading into a new cycle of the T20 World Cup and need bowlers who can make a difference through their pace alone. If Mayank can stay fit, he is one of the few Indian fast bowlers who has the ability to do so. Zimbabwe may not be the biggest challenge of his career, but after two years filled with injuries and disrupted comebacks, this series could mean a lot more to him than the opposition suggests.
The rest of India’s team combination will also be something to watch. With regular fast bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh not part of the team, India is ready to field a young fast bowler. Mayank Yadav has returned to the national team after almost 2 years, while Ashok Sharma and Yash Thakur have received their first call-up.
