Nitish Kumar Reddy is out of the Ireland T20I series; India suffers a hand injury blow.
The series against Ireland starts on June 26 in Belfast, and with Reddy not being in the reckoning, the Indian management is looking for the ideal balance in batting and bowling. Early reports also indicate that he is uncertain for the next white-ball series against England as he embarks on the road to recovery.
Reddy has apparently worsened the same quadriceps injury that had bothered him during India’s just-concluded ODI series against Afghanistan.
The youthful all-rounder had missed the second ODI after complaining of stiffness in his leg before returning for the final match. He played in the third ODI, but the injury did not heal entirely, and fresh medical reports revealed that he would not be healthy enough to fly with the Indian team to Ireland.
Immediate focus is rehabilitation, and the BCCI’s medical specialists are anticipated to keep a close tab on his recuperation at the National Centre of Excellence.
It was the latest frustrating setback in an otherwise quickly expanding international career for Nitish Kumar Reddy. The Andhra all-rounder has emerged as one of India’s most fascinating young stars in the last two seasons. His batting and bowling skills made him the perfect choice to take on the role of a seam-bowling all-rounder in the emerging landscape of India’s white-ball cricket.
His bowling workload was considerably restricted by fitness issues during IPL 2025. He then missed a chunk of India’s Test schedule with another injury, before working hard to reach full fitness. Just when he looked to be poised to stake his claim across formats, another muscular problem has put him back again.
India’s selectors have been investing money in creating real fast-bowling all-rounders.
His presence allows leaders to play an extra specialised batsman or bowler without upsetting the balance of the side.
With veteran all-rounders also managing workload and fitness, Reddy has grown in importance for India’s long-term white-ball aspirations.
Earlier warning flags were there in India’s ODI series against Afghanistan. Reddy was a part of the first ODI and performed decently with the ball, taking key wickets. He was nevertheless unable to attend the second encounter after feeling soreness in his left thigh.
Before the match, Captain Shubman Gill had said Reddy was having quadriceps soreness.
The teenager did return in the third ODI, bowling six overs, but it was clear the pain was still there, and he was withdrawn from the Ireland side.

Perhaps the greater worry for Indian supporters is that the ailment may not be limited to the Ireland visit.
Several sources suggest Reddy’s rehabilitation might take several weeks, and he remains uncertain for India’s next white-ball series against England as well.
If he misses England too, it will mean a loss of crucial international exposure abroad – something deemed vital for India’s next crop of all-rounders. The BCCI would want to be careful and not hurry him back.
One of the major issues for India has traditionally been finding excellent pace-bowling all-rounders. Reddy remains one of the brightest prospects in the country, but the frequent injuries highlight the need for workload management for young cricketers making the move into international cricket. The management is likely to favour long-term fitness above short-term availability.
After the news of Reddy’s injury broke out, fans took to social media to wish the singer a swift recovery. Many fans were disappointed, particularly given his good performances in previous internationals.
Ex-cricketers and commentators, too, have underlined patience being the key and pointed out that India should not push the kid back before he completely heals. But the task of replicating Reddy’s whole skill set is far from simple.
Few players now mix:
His absence might mean India could have to somewhat change its tactical approach in the Ireland and possibly the England assignments.
Nitish Kumar Reddy’s injury is certainly disheartening news for both the individual and Team India. He was one of India’s most promising young all-rounders and was anticipated to play a big part in the Ireland T20Is and possibly the England white-ball series.
India has adequate squad depth to stay competitive, but Reddy’s absence takes away an essential option of balance from the side. More significantly, fans will hope this setback proves brief and that the kid comes back stronger after he finishes his recovery.
Now, with India gearing up for yet another big foreign assignment, all eyes will be on the BCCI announcement for the replacement and when Reddy will be back.
