Kolkata Knight Riders finally got their first win in IPL 2026. After going winless in six matches, KKR defeated Rajasthan Royals by 4 wickets at the Eden Gardens on Sunday, April 19. The win ended KKR’s worst start in IPL history, and the entire stadium erupted in cheers as Rinku Singh scored the winning run with two balls to spare. After winning the toss, Rajasthan Royals elected to bat. Vaibhav Suryavanshi (46 off 28 balls) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (39 off 29 balls) gave RR a bright start and took them to 81/0 in 8.3 overs. RR seemed to be heading for a big score. But then KKR’s spin duo came forward and changed everything. Varun Chakravarthy (3/14) and Sunil Narine (2/26) bowl so well in the intervening overs that RR lose wickets one after the other and end up at just 155/9 in 20 overs.
KKR did not have a good start at all. Tim Seifert was dismissed by Jofra Archer on the very first ball. Then Ajinkya Rahane also returned for a duck. KKR fell to 85/6 and the match was over. But then Rinku Singh showed why he is known as a finisher. He scored an unbeaten 53 off 34 balls. Along with Anukul Roy (29* off 16 balls), Rinku put on a 76-run partnership to take KKR home. Eden Gardens was a blast as KKR won their first match of the season.
Russia 81/0 – Powerplay dominance: Jaiswal and Suryavanshi completely dominate the KKR bowlers. The opening pair reach 81 without losing a wicket. Every KKR bowler looks unmarked. Eden Gardens falls silent.
Spin twin strike – RR collapse: Varun Chakravarthy comes in and dismisses Suryavanshi for 46. He then bowls Riyan Parag through the wicket for 12. Narine also joins in, which causes the scoring rate to plummet. RR go from 81/0 to 155/9. No one seems to be breaking down.
Wicked on the first ball – Tim Seifert gone: Jofra Archer bowls a wonderful ball on the very first ball of the KKR chase. Tim Seifert has no answer and is back on zero. Eden Gardens quiets down again.
KKR 70/5 — Crisis: Cameron Green is stumped brilliantly by Dhruv Jurel off Ravi Bishnoi for 27. KKR are 70/5 in 11 overs. Ravindra Jadeja bowls Angkrish Raghuvanshi. The target of 156 seems a long way off.
Rinku turns the game around: Rinku Singh and Anukul Roy take 19 runs in the 16th over bowled by Ravi Bishnoi. This one over completely changes the match. KKR are now starting to believe again and the crowd is slowly coming alive.
Anukul’s crucial six: Anukul Roy hits a powerful six off Jofra Archer in the 19th over. KKR need only 9 runs off the last 6 balls. The equation is simple. Rinku calmly completed it in the last over.
KKR win! — First win of IPL 2026: Rinku Singh scores the winning run with 2 balls to spare. Eden Gardens went absolutely crazy. After six bad matches, KKR finally ended their losing streak. Rinku picked up the bat. Tears of joy everywhere.

Ajinkya Rahane became the second KKR captain to be dismissed in two consecutive innings. He now holds the record for the most ducks (15) in IPL history and the most ducks as an opener (12).
This is KKR’s first win in IPL 2026, ending their worst start to an IPL season. Before this win, they had lost 5 matches and had just 1 point (no result against PBKS).
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi now have the third-best opening partnership average (at least 500 runs) in IPL history: 57.69. They also have 8 fifties for RR, which is the joint second.

Rajasthan Royals bat first and they start as if they are going to score over 200 runs. Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal play amazing cricket. Suryavanshi hits the ball very hard and scores 46 runs in just 28 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Jaiswal is brilliant at the other end and scores 39 runs. Together they take RR to 81 runs in 8.3 overs without any problems.
But Varun Chakravarthy turns the match around completely. He changes his pace and flight, and Suryavanshi goes for a big shot and finds Ramandeep Singh on the boundary. He opens the floodgates for the wicket. Sunil Narine and Chakravarthy bowl together in the overs between them and dry up all the runs. RR’s middle order – Parag, Hetmyer, Ferreira – all fail to make an impact. Then Kartik Tyagi took 3 wickets at the death. RR, after their explosive start, could only manage 74 runs in the last 11.3 overs. 155/9 is far below their expectations.
KKR’s chase starts in the worst possible way. Jofra Archer bowls Tim Seifert on the very first ball. Then Nandre Burger dismisses Ajinkya Rahane for a duck. KKR are 5/2 after just 2 overs. Cameron Green tries to save them and plays some good shots for 27 runs, but he is stumped brilliantly by Dhruv Jurel. Then Ravindra Jadeja dismisses Angkrish Raghuvanshi with a sharp LBW. At 70/5 and then 85/6, the match looks lost.
This is when Rinku Singh comes into the field. Rinku has been struggling this season – just 79 runs in five innings. But he likes this kind of pressure. He stays calm, takes his shots and never panics. He also gets a lucky break when Nandre Burger dismisses him for 8 runs. He made sure that the opportunity was not wasted. Along with Anukul Roy, they put on a brilliant partnership of 76 runs in just 37 balls. In the 19th over, Roy took control of the situation by hitting a powerful six off Archer. Rinku ended the game with special composure. KKR won by 4 wickets with 2 balls to spare.
