The India national cricket team has delivered some of the most powerful batting performances in the history of T20Is. With players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav on their team, India is always known for delivering big scores and powerful batting.

Even the best batting teams have their bad days once in a while. In the course of time, India has witnessed a couple of collapses in their performance which have led to some pretty low scores in T20Is.

Here are the seven lowest team scores of India in T20I history, gathered by Cricbites.

1. 74 all out vs Australia, Melbourne (2008)

India’s lowest-ever T20I total was against Australia national cricket team at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Starting first in the innings, India crumbled to 74 runs from 17.5 overs, with Australia’s fast bowlers having a balling show right from the start of the match. There were only three Indian batsmen who were able to score in double digits after getting off to an extremely poor start. Australia chased down the target comfortably with nine wickets to spare.

2. 76 all out vs England, Nottingham (2026)

This was the second-lowest T20I score of India in the third T20I match against England cricket team at Trent Bridge. Chasing 202, India were bowled out for just 76 in only 11.4 overs. Fast bowlers Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue led the demolition as India suffered their heaviest T20I defeat by runs.

3. 79 all out vs New Zealand, Nagpur (2016)

The opening match of the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 turned into a nightmare for India. Defending 126, New Zealand national cricket team spinners completely outclassed the hosts on a turning pitch in Nagpur. Mitchell Santner picked up four wickets while Ish Sodhi claimed three as India were bundled out for 79.

4. 81/8 vs Sri Lanka, Colombo (2021)

India’s tour of Sri Lanka in 2021 was heavily affected by COVID-related disruptions. This forced the visitors to field an inexperienced side. Batting first in Colombo, India managed only 81/8 in their 20 overs. The total remains India’s slowest-scoring completed T20I innings with a run rate of just 4.05.

5. 92 all out vs South Africa, Cuttack (2015)

The batting line-up struggled badly against the disciplined bowling attack of the South Africa national cricket team in Cuttack. India were dismissed for 92 in 17.2 overs after losing wickets at regular intervals. South Africa chased the target with ease to take control of the series

6. 101 all out vs Sri Lanka, Pune (2016)

Another collapse against Sri Lanka national cricket team came in Pune during the 2016 home series. Debutant pacer Kasun Rajitha impressed with the new ball and triggered a batting collapse. India were bowled out for 101 before Sri Lanka completed a comfortable chase.

7. 102 all out vs Zimbabwe, Harare (2024)

The most unexpected collapse by Indian batters was against the Zimbabwe national cricket With some new faces in the squad, India collapsed for 102 while defending 116 runs. Even in such an easy run chase, Zimbabwe batters managed to keep up the pressure and emerged winners.

Conclusion

Despite possessing one of the strongest batting line-ups in world cricket, India have experienced several memorable batting collapses in T20 Internationals. Their lowest score of 74 against Australia stood untouched for more than 18 years before the recent 76 against England came close to rewriting the unwanted record.
