On May 27, 2026, under the bright lights of the PCA New Chandigarh Stadium, a 15-year-old boy went into the IPL Eliminator and played in a way that the pressure had never felt before. By the time the madness finally died down, Vaibhav Suryavanshi had scored 97 runs off just 29 balls and Rajasthan Royals had entered Qualifier 2 after defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 47 runs.

The teenager attacked SRH’s bowling with immense confidence and brutal clean hitting. Rajasthan’s innings quickly spiralled out of Hyderabad’s control, with sixes blazing from every corner of the stadium.

Sooryavanshi’s Record Hunt Shakes Hyderabad

Suryavanshi reached his half-century in just 16 balls, equalling Suresh Raina’s record for the fastest half-century in IPL playoff history. The scoreboard seemed unreal. Rajasthan had crossed the 100-run mark in nine overs and the Hyderabad bowlers were already looking mentally exhausted.

As the innings picked up pace, Chris Gayle’s legendary IPL record suddenly began to tremble. In 2013, Gayle had scored the fastest IPL century in 30 balls for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Thirteen years later, a 15-year-old was on the verge of breaking that record.

Suryavanshi scored 97 runs in just 28 balls and was one clean strike away from creating one of the greatest moments the league has ever seen. The entire stadium could see history approaching. Thousands of people inside the ground had already taken out their phones. Hyderabad players also looked stressed.

Hyderabad Finally Find Relief

Then came the only mistake of the innings. Hitting another big six off Praful Hing, Kishor mistimed a shot towards the boundary where Ravichandran Smrane completed the catch.

For a moment, Suryavanshi just stared ahead, unable to comprehend the end of an innings that had taken almost complete control of the match. Even without a century, this innings had already entered IPL folklore. When he returned, Suryavanshi had hit 12 sixes and five fours at an astonishing strike rate of 334.48, completely destroying SRH’s bowling attack. No batsman had ever hit more sixes in an IPL playoff innings.

Before the doom was in full swing, Yashasvi Jaiswal calmly paced Rajasthan’s innings with a calm 29 off 29 balls. Once Suryavanshi exploded, however, the Hyderabad bowlers lost complete control of the game.

Rajasthan Royals Post A Massive 243

Pat Cummins endured one of the costliest spells of his IPL career, conceding 64 runs in four overs, while Shakib Hossain and Praful Hinze also disappeared under constant pressure. Rajasthan Royals eventually posted 243 for 8, their highest score in IPL playoff history.

Dhruv Jurel then scored a 21-ball half-century, which included fearless stroke-play and smart hitting. Captain Riyan Parag made another quick contribution, scoring 26 runs in just 12 balls as Hyderabad’s bowling attack continued to crumble under pressure on the scoreboard.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Collapse During The Chase

The chase could not really recover even after Jofra Archer’s opening spell. Abhishek Sharma was left behind on a duck, but Archer broke Travis Head’s stumps and bowled a powerful new ball to dismiss Ishan Kishan. Hyderabad collapsed to 57 for 4 and the contest ended just before the halfway mark.

Henrik Klaasen threatened briefly with an explosive cameo before Yash Raj Punja was out lbw after a review. Nitish Kumar Reddy aggressively scored 38 runs off 20 balls while Salil Arora added 35 runs, but Rajasthan continued to take wickets at regular intervals.

Rajasthan Bowlers Finish The Job

Ravindra Jadeja controlled the middle overs brilliantly and dismissed both Nitish and Salil, after which Sushant Mishra cleared the lower order with two wickets.

Despite some late resistance from Shivang Kumar, who scored 27, the required rate remained out of Hyderabad’s reach. Sunrisers Hyderabad eventually finished at 196 for 9 in 20 overs as Rajasthan Royals secured the most brutal knockout victory in IPL history.

While Rajasthan’s aggressive bowling and Jofra’s three-wicket haul completed the victory, the Eliminator will be remembered forever as the 15-year-old almost tore cricket history to pieces.

Rajasthan Royals March Into Qualifier 2

Now Rajasthan Royals are moving one step closer to the IPL final, where Gujarat Titans wait like a wall between them and Gaurav. But after what happened in Chandigarh, no one wants to stand against this batting lineup. A 15-year-old kid has already changed the season. Maybe he is changing the history of IPL now.
