Zimbabwe and Bangladesh cricket teams will clash in the first T20I of the series on Wednesday, July 15. Zimbabwe won the ODI series 2-1 by defeating Bangladesh by an innings and 85 runs in the only Test match. Bangladesh secured a consolation win in the third ODI but the big thing about this tour is that Zimbabwe has dominated at home in both formats.
Now the first T20I will be played on July 15 at the Queen’s Sports Club in Bulawayo, starting at 12:30 pm local time and 4:00 pm IST. The three-match series at the same venue will also serve as a practice match for both teams ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup, which Zimbabwe will co-host.

Sikandar Raza leads Zimbabwe, who have retained the core of the team that reached the Super Eight stage of the 2026 T20 World Cup, defeating both Australia and Sri Lanka. Newman Nyamahuri and Milton Shumba are the only additions to the World Cup squad. Nyamahuri is set to make his T20I debut, while Shumba returns to the format for the first time since the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Nyamahuri will enter the series in strong form after making a significant impact against Bangladesh in recent weeks, taking 6 wickets in the only Test and contributing 33 runs off 51 balls in the opening ODI. After finishing as Zimbabwe’s leading run-scorer in the domestic T20 competition, Shumba was forced to return to the national team after scoring 223 runs in 8 matches.
Ryan Burle’s leg-spin is Zimbabwe’s most dangerous bowling weapon in the T20 format and Blessing Muzaraba will lead the pace attack. Raza is a player with both bat and ball that every opposition team thinks of first. Graeme Cramer is missing the series due to a fractured left hand, while Brendan Taylor and Tony Munyonga are absent from Zimbabwe’s World Cup squad.
Bangladesh have named Towhid Hridayoin as their captain for the T20I series after regular captain Liton Das, all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz and fast bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmood were absent due to playing in the Lanka Premier League. This Bangladesh team lacks 4 first-choice players and the experience gap between this lineup and Zimbabwe’s settled group is real.
The team is looking forward to the return of all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain, who forced his way back into the T20I set-up after an impressive ODI series against Australia where he scored 157 runs in 3 matches. Yasir Ali has also been recalled after almost 3 years away from the T20I set-up. At the top, Tanjid Hasan is Bangladesh’s most explosive batting option and Rishad Hossain provides the best spin threat for the visitors.
Mustafizur Rahman and Nahid Rana are senior pace options but the bowling attack has not been weakened by the absence of Taskin or Hasan Mahmud. Bangladesh lost the ODI series 2-1 on the same tour and have not been able to solve their batting problems consistently to support themselves in Bulawayo.

Queen’s Sports Club in Bulawayo is known for its batting-friendly pitch, which provides batsmen with consistent bounce and good conditions for players to score freely. The average first innings score at this venue in T20I cricket is around 130 runs, and the team chasing the target has historically been more dominant than the defending team.
The surface is flat at first but begins to deteriorate as the game progresses, with spinners becoming more effective as the match progresses and the variable bounce making it difficult for batsmen to time their shots cleanly. The outfield is slow, meaning batsmen need to run harder for their runs and boundaries are not as freely available as the batting-friendly label would suggest.
Both Sikandar Raza and Ryan Burl will benefit from conditions that increasingly help spinners as each innings progresses, while Rishad Hossain gives Bangladesh a real weapon on a similar surface.
Due to the batting-friendly nature of the Queen’s Sports Club, teams winning the toss are likely to choose to bat first, giving batsmen the chance to take advantage of the firm surface before the pitch deteriorates in the first innings. The slow outfield and average T20I scores of around 130 mean that 150 becomes a truly competitive score on this ground.
Both captains know that spinners get better as the match progresses, which makes for a smart formula for building a first innings total. The team winning the toss bats first.
Zimbabwe are the home team, they currently have a better team for this format and they have beaten Bangladesh in both formats on this tour. Without 4 key players, Bangladesh are significantly weaker than a team that is already struggling in ODIs. Raza’s all-round contribution, Burl’s leg-spin and the explosive batting of Brian Bennett and Tadiwanashe Marumani give Zimbabwe many ways to win this match.
Bangladesh’s best hope at the top is Tanzid Hasan who will start quickly and Rishad Hossain will take wickets in the middle overs to drag the game back. Zimbabwe are the clear favourites for the first T20I.
Significant improvement in both batting and bowling will be needed to bring Bangladesh closer in Bulawayo.
